May I Come In

May I Come In is my first album.
I think I spent a long time writing (and co-writing) songs without really knowing whether anyone else would ever hear them. They were places to put things I couldn't quite say otherwise - longing, faith, doubt, love, guilt, memory, and all the complicated spaces between them.
Eventually those songs began to feel like they belonged together.
There’s a lot of me in this record, although not everything is as autobiographical as it might sound. Some songs began with something that happened to me, some with people I knew, and others with a feeling, an image or a question I couldn't get out of my head.
Looking back, I think the title says more about the album than I realised when I chose it. May I Come In is really a question. About wanting to be known. Wanting to belong. Wanting to get close to someone while still being slightly terrified of what might happen if they actually let you.
It was the first time I opened the door on these songs and let other people hear them.
Thank you for coming in.
