BODY IN THE RAIN

Body in the Rain is a collection of five songs that, for one reason or another, found themselves without a home.

Some were written around May I Come In and were hotly debated before being left off the album. Others came later and were considered for the record we’re making now, but didn’t quite belong there either. We spent a ridiculous amount of time arguing about what to do with them before eventually realising that maybe they belonged together.

They come from different moments and slightly different versions of me, but I think there’s a thread running through them - longing, loss, uncertainty, and the strange ways we try to make sense of things that might not make sense at all.

The title track is a song about the futility of war and what remains when all the rhetoric, causes and justifications are stripped away: individual human lives.

Maybe that’s what connects these five songs for me. They’re all looking at the distance between the stories we tell ourselves and the much messier reality underneath.

These are the songs that kept surviving every conversation about where they were supposed to go.

So we finally gave them somewhere to belong.
